Manuka Honey – Australia

Manuka Honey has been found to have high antibacterial activity against a variety of bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus and epidermis, Streptococcus pyogenes and Enterobacteriaceae.

Manuka honey is the only honey available for sale that is tested for its antibacterial activity. It contains an extra antibacterial component found only in honey produced from Leptospermum plants that is referred to as the “Unique Manuka Factor (UMF)”. A honey with the same properties as Manuka Honey has been found to be produced from Leptospermum polygalifolium, a bush that grows naturally in some parts of Australia.
